Dear SSGians,
One of the things that all people ,places and things have in common is (NAMES). Most people have some idea of their name meaning or where their name came from. The etymology and onomastics resource to look up the history and meaning of names are common habit. For a long time, I have been thinking about our association’s name.
“OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION”.
Don’t you think it is wrong ? Many girls students were/are there. Isn’t injustice to them ? Moreover, It makes me to think old. Some of you may say
“What is in a name ” ? Yaah ! but then , don’t you feel to be associated by a good name ? Real meaningful one .
No boys or Girls- we were students.
So, I have a proposal . May we think of changing the name of our association to :
“SAINIK SCHOOL GOALPARA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION”(SSGAA).
I invite you to comments, participate in our forums, and information to our growing community.

CHANGE OF NAME
Dear all,
Dear all,
I Completely agree with Sarat Da...
OBASSG seems a little bit out of place in context to today's world. Its sounds more like a network of "Just Passed Out School Students". Though it actually is, but it loses its importantance and sheen in the real world. People tend to view the association as another group, which they will eventually forget about...
The name suggested by sarat da - SSGAA - seems just perfect. It gives the association a Professional Touch too..
When you speak of any network group of past pupils of any school/college, you will find that such groups would genarally name them as Alumni Association of so & so on.... This lends professionalism and seriousness to the group.
This will also enable us to overcome the shortcomings that you pointed out earlier. I would also like to make another suggestion. I am not sure if our teachers - Previous as well as current ones- are part of the association. If they are not, then we could start by including them as Lifetime Honorary Members of the association. Without them, we would not have been what we are today.
As suggested by Sarat Da, we can have a constructive discussion in this forum and take this forward.

OBASSG
Hi guys,
I really feel that changing names is not a major priority. Let us not become like the states which spend energy on this. After all, when we talk of "Old Boys", even the girls are included. There is no reason why Romana (daughter of our then registrar - Maj NN Chatterjee) or other girls who joined later, cannot be old boys.
What I like is Kuldeep's proposal to have all our teachers (including the principals, headmasters and registrars) in the fold. They were all institutions by themselves. In fact, everyone associated with the school should be welcome. It will be really great to have Mamoni baideu (Mamoni Raisom Goswami), who was a teacher during our time, amongst us.

What's in a name!
Sorry for chipping in late in the discussion. The spirit behind the suggestion for changing the name of the association is quite praiseworthy and I thank Sarat da for bringing up such a lively and thought provoking topic. However, with due respect to all, I am afraid, I do not vote in support of the motion. The reasons for me to be saying so are:
So, freinds and brothers, I rest my case here and would welcome more views on it.
