Sainik School Goalpara Old Boys Meet at Delhi – A Trip Down Memory Lane
New Delhi, India - November 29, 2009 – The old boys of Sainik School Goalpara, one of the most prestigious and distinguished residential schools in the state, and the country as well, came together on the evening of the 28th of November, 2009, in a nostalgic reunion to celebrate their association with their alma mater at the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The event venue was at Dhruv, the Army Aviation mess situated at the Delhi Army Cantonment area.
The event was well attended by ex-students of the school, who are all well-established professionals from both the defense and the civilian establishments. Among the senior-most defense personnel, Air Marshall Anjan Gogoi and Major General Pranab K Bharali graced and conducted the evening in the typical gentlemen fashion, bestowing the evening with a solemn distinction rarely seen at such motley gatherings anywhere. From the non-defense segment, prominent personalities like Nripen Bharali, GM – HR and BD, OIL, were present at the gathering.
The ex-students also bequeathed their gratitude and indebtedness to Mr Manoj K De, ex-teacher of the school, who was felicitated with the traditional Assamese gamusa by Air Marshall Anjan Gogoi, one of the senior-most students present at the gathering.
The evening, replete with fun and frolic, was kicked off by a welcome speech to the August gathering by the Master of Ceremony, Ms. Ilakshee Nath, spouse of one of the ex-students, Lt Col S S Nath. This was followed by the singing of the school song, Axom Axom, in the typical style it used be sung in while at school. The highlight was an inter-house tug-of-war competition, reminiscent of the times spent at the school, a long saga of healthy competitive existence, mostly in the form of inter-house competitions. This competitive spirit has lent a grit and tenacity to each of the students of this great alma mater, which can be seen at display in the society they have become part of today. There was a musical chair competition for the extended members of this community – the spouses and children of the ex-SSGians, cultural activities such as solo dance performances, mime, culminating in an enthralling and scintillating Bihu dance by a troupe of lovely dancers, all students at the Delhi University.
The cherished dream of every ex-student of the Sainik Schools is to give back to the society from which it received such lofty and noble ideals as students. Towards this end, the old boys of Sainik School Goalpara have formed an association, the “Old Boys Association - Sainik School Goalpara”, based in Guwahati in Assam.
