OBA- SSG (Bangalore Chapter) Reunion on 22nd March 2009

 

The first meeting of the Old Boys Association of Sainik School Goalpara (SSG)(Bangalore chapter) was held on 22nd March 2009 at Holiday Village resort, Bangalore. The meet was started with the registration of all the participants of the meet. It was followed by singing of the school song (Axom Axom) and cake cutting by the senior most and the junior most amongst the alumnae, Wing Cmdr Pabitra Kr. Borah and Bhaskar Bhuyan a Ph.d student in IISC Bangalore, respectively.
The alumnae deliberated on the proposed steps to help the students of SSG, like assistance of career guidance and support in attaining admission to the right institutions at Bangalore, offering a running trophy or fellowship to the topper of Class-XII examination every year amongst other topics. It was also suggested to have a South India chapter with Bangalore as the base.
An executive committee was formed for the Bangalore chapter with Wing Comndr Pabitra Kr. Borah as President and Pranab Kr. Sarma as Secretary. A small cultural event was also organized amongst the participants and their spouses. Altogether 28 alumini along with their families attended the meet. All the participants also maintained one-minute silence in the memory of their ex-teachers and friends who have departed for heavenly abode.

DISCUSSION
Discussion on the OBA’s role
·          It was discussed that the alumni staying at Bangalore who strive to help the school in various forms like guiding the aspiring students in getting right admission and training/jobs at Bangalore. Final decision to be taken by the executive committee.
·          It was also proposed to have a South India chapter of OBA-SSG based at Bangalore.
Regarding the land and building for OBA at Guwahati, the members felt that it is pre-matured to decide on the forms of contribution from a far away place like Bangalore. Instead the members opined that once a concrete plan ( i.e land area and price, what amount of finance is available and what is the deficient or surplus including the financial details) is received from the Guwahati Unit, future course of action can be decided accordingly.
Meeting of OBA Bangalore chapter
It was decided that the main general body meeting of the chapter would be held on the 1st Sunday of February every year. Further meeting of all members may be decided as per convenience.
