MEMORANDUM TO
SHRI TARUN GOGOI
HONOURABLE CHIEF MINISTER, ASSAM
Dated 3rd June 2009
SUB: PROVISION OF AN INFRASTRUCTURE FOR TRAINING AND GROOMING OF STUDENTS OF ASSAM TO JOIN THE DEFENCE FORCES AND OTHER CENTRAL SERVICES.
BY:
OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION, (OBA)
SAINIK SCHOOL GOALPARA (SSG)
Hon’ble Sir,
The objective of submitting this memorandum is to focus on some important aspects pertaining to development of youth of the state. Sir, Sainik School, Goalpara (SSG) is a premier education institution which have been acting as the prime feeder institution for defence forces. However it is felt that the dearth of training agencies or institutions in our state to train the youths for Service Selection Board (SSB) and other competitive exams fails to give them the edge over others. We the Old Boys Association (OBA), Sainik School Goalpara feel obligated to revive the laurels of this great institution in the light of stiff competition faced by the youths. Hence we would like to contribute to our society by way of creating an infrastructure to train the youth by our retired Army, Navy, Air Force officers as well as other senior officers of central services and corporate sectors. Sir with your farsightedness, dynamism and vision, we are not only confident but absolutely sure that Sainik School Goalpara with the unstinted support of OBA, SSG will be able to make Sainik School, Goalpara, an institution to reckon with.
Therefore, with this aim in view, we would like to enumerate certain aspects for your kind perusal and blessings:
Declining strength of students from Assam in Sainik School, Goalpara:
With great concern, we want to shed light on the fact that the number of students from Assam have declined to less than 50% in the school, whereas students of other states are pouring in great numbers of for admission into this august institution. Though there is no discrimination against our students, this trend can be attributed to the lack of publicity and lack of awareness among the student fraternity and their parents regarding the School and its admission procedure. To increase the awareness among the students and parents throughout the state we suggest that:
1. Government machinery be utilised to highlight admission procedure to school through JANASANJOG by means of hoardings, advertisements and circulars etc to Government schools.
2. Dedicated training teams may be formed to train aspiring students of standard V & VI for entrance test. Our OBA is prepared to extend all possible help in this regard.
2. Provision of a small infrastructure or a plot of land at Guwahati: There is an urgent requirement for motivational/preparation training to join the defence forces institutions like National Defence Academy (NDA), Indian Military, Naval and Air Force Academies, Para Military Forces and even top central services. In the past, retired officers from our school conducted such classes for Service Selection Board (SSB) at Guwahati at various temporary locations. Even students had spent enormous money in the past by going to Delhi and other places for these trainings. To institutionalise such training facility as also to establish an office complex of OBA, SSG, we request your honour to kindly allot an existing govt. infrastructure of approximately 3000 sq feet built up area or a suitable plot of land approximately 1 Bigha in Guwahati being centrally located. The infrastructure thus created will be utilised and supervised by the Old Boys Association, Sainik School Goalpara (OBA, SSG).
3. Provision of an IT Lab at Sainik School. It is learnt that a suitable modern IT Lab is required at the school. School does not have adequate fund for the same. The state government is requested to assist in providing a state-of-the-art IT Lab for the benefit of the students.
Sir, we are sure that your vision of a vibrant and progressive state would also encompass betterment of the premier institution and the services voluntarily submitted through this august forum i.e. OBA, SSG.
Sir, with this prayer we would like to conclude wishing you the very best of health and prosperity.
