DRAFT MINUTES OF THE 12TH AGM OF OBASSG HELD ON 10 APRIL 2010
@ The flag of the Association is unfurled by the President OBASSG at Shilpgram, Panjabari, Guwahati and it is followed by the singing of the School Song ‘Axom Axom’ by all members present.
@ MC invites the President, Working Presidents, GS, and Treasurer of OBA, President of Bangalore Chapter, and Roll No. 1 to the dais.
@ Ceremonial Lamp lighted by Roll No. 1 Nripen Choudhury and others present on the dais.
@ One minute’s silence observed.
@ MC requests President OBA Anowar Hussain Saikia to chair the Meeting and hands over the Agenda.
@ GS Diganta Gogoi delivers Welcome Speech, reads out the Objectives of the Meeting and presents his Annual Report.
@ GS reads out the message sent by the Maj Gen P. K. Bharali, President, Delhi Chapter.
@ Many members take part in the discussion on GS’s Report. Gp. Capt. D. Gohain (17/Chilarai) raises the question of road connectivity to School and seeks to know what is being done from OBA to expedite the pace of work. Lt. Col. K. K. Singh (1448/Udaygiri) joins the discussion and apprises the House of how the GoC 101 Area got Rs. 5 cr sanctioned for the same. Other members also take part in the discussion and the Report is finally accepted by the House.
@ Treasurer Dr. Karuna Barman tables his Report and it is followed by discussion. Subhash Ch. Das (259/Chilarai) and Rupam Goswami (1293/Udaygiri) suggest that the balance sheet be prepared for one financial year, i.e. upto March every year. All accept the suggestion. Col. Biman Bora (72/chilarai) and Col. Ibnul Huda (3/Chilarai) ask the Treasurer questions to which the Treasurer replies satisfactorily. The Report is finally accepted by the House.
@ President of Bangalore Chapter Col. Budhindra Lahkar (1079/Lachit) addresses the Meeting and talks about a vision for the Association, acquisition of a plot of land in Guwahati, and suggests that our targets should be met within definite time-frames.
@ Roll No. 1 addresses the gathering and shares his experience of how the OBA, which was wilting for some time, is now gradually becoming healthy and strong through the efforts of dedicated younger members.
@ This is followed by a brief introductory session where the ex-students from the first batch of 1964 introduce themselves and share some of their experiences. They talk about ways in which contribution can be made to School; about motivating youngsters to join Armed Forces; about a vision for the Association; about helping our fellow mates who are not well-placed; and they also suggested incorporation of more detailed information regarding the occupation of ex-students in the next Address Book.
OPEN SESSION
@ Abhigyan Prasad (2256/Udaygiri), on behalf of the team that prepared the Address Book, thanks all and at the same time begs apology for the mistakes and omissions in the Address Book. He also requests all to update their details on the Association Website. He also suggests that Roll No. 1 Nripen Choudhury and Col. C. K. Bora (84/Udaygiri), the first to join NDA, should be honoured by making them permanent Advisers for all executives to come. The House instantly accepts the suggestion.
@ Nripendra Lal Baruah (137) talks about the forthcoming Golden Jubilee of School and suggests preparation of a vision for the same. He also suggests the introduction of life membership @ Rs. 10,000/- and the House accepts it.
@ Lt. Col. K. K. Singh talks about building some infrastructural facilities for the students and teachers in School and the creation of a dedicated Infrastructure Fund. He volunteers to donate his one day’s salary for the Fund and exhorts all to think over it seriously. He also suggests that our Publication BRIDGE be called a ‘Journal’ rather than a ‘Magazine’.
@ Jamini Talukdar (1004/Lachit) talks about increasing the strength of students from Assam in SSG. He suggests canvassing in villages and small towns and volunteers himself for the same. He also requests the retired senior members to get actively involved in the Association.
@ Rupam Goswami requests the GS to read out the Resolutions of the last AGM. He also outlines the difficulties of running an Association without a permanent office and staff and offers the use of his premises located on G. S. Road, Guwahati free of cost for OBASSG office. He also suggests the publication of a quarterly newsletter. He also raises the matter of charging for Lunch during the recent Meet at School.
@ The GS joins the discussion and answers some of the questions posed to him. He also clarifies the issue of charging for Lunch. At this point, many members like Col. Ranjit Talukdar (393/Udaygiri), Jamini Talukdar, Subhash Ch. Das, Wg. Cdr. Manoj Kr. Borah (50/udaygiri) et al join the discussion. All agree that from the next Meet onwards, the Lunch at school should be a paid Lunch. The members were even of the opinion that, Budget permitting, the Lunch for the on the same day should even be sponsored by us.
@ Roll No. 1 suggests that our Accounts should first be audited by an Internal Auditor and then by a CA. The House readily accepts his suggestion.
@ Basant Kr. Mishra (1739) talks about building infrastructure in School and donates his one day’s salary to the Infrastructure Fund.
@ Col. Mohan Baruah (132/Lachit) suggests that OBASSG should get registered as an NGO and should also explore the possibilities of utilizing funds from the Indian Army which are specifically earmarked for welfare work by NGOs.
@ President OBASSG Anowar Hussain Saikia addresses the Meeting. He thanks all on behalf the Executive Committee and said that the EC tried its level best to discharge its duties. He suggested that there should be continuity in leadership as many important tasks are only half done. He also supported Lt. Col. K. K. Singh’s suggestion of an Infrastructure Fund and pledged his share of one day’s salary. He also suggested that during the upcoming OBA Meet at School on 12 Nov 2010, the best Class X and XII students should be given some prizes. This suggestion is readily accepted by the House.
@ On behalf of the whole Executive, the President resigns and paves the way for the formation of the new committee. He also requests Nripen Choudhury (01/Lohit), Col. Pankaj Rajkhowa (02/Lachit), Subhash Ch. Das (259) and other senior members to smoothly conduct the election of the new body.
@ The 12th AGM of OBASSG held at Shilpgram, Guwahati on 10 April 2010 concludes with the singing of the national Anthem by all present.
