CONDOLENCE MESSAGE
“Bohaag mathu eti ritu nohoy, nohoy bohag eti maah,Axomiya jatir ee ayukh rekha…” (Spring is not merely a season, nor is it merely a month). Like the eternal Spring, Dr Bhupen Hazarika is the lifeline of the Assamese identity. He stood out like a collossus and his contribution greatly enriched our cultural landscape and his influence on Assamese art and culture was particularly profound. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, fondly aamaar Bhupen da, was not simply a balladeer. He was a composer, a vocalist, a lyricist, a litterateur, singer, actor and a filmmaker all rolled into one. Yet, he was more than all these combined together. To say the least, just as fragrance is of essence to flower, so Bhupen da has been of essence to the cultural and creative life of Assam in the second half of the twentieth century. To say that his demise has caused a void that cannot be filled is to simply repeat a cliché. Yet, we do that at this hour of mourning as more suitable expressions desert us.
The Old Boys’ Association, Sainik School Goalpara (OBASSG) expresses its deep sense of sorrow and grief at the sad demise of Assam Ratna and Padmabibhushan Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. It earnestly prays to the almighty so that Bhupen Da’s soul rests in eternal peace. At the same time, it expresses its sense of sympathy and solidarity with the grieving members of the bereaved family.
On behalf of the OBASSG fraternity
