Dear SSGians,

Thank you for a most lovely evening yesterday. I am writing this mail to express my delight on seeing the ATTITUDE of ‘Gen Next’ SSGians.

Normally it is the custom of the ‘Oldies’ to crib, hem and haw about the ‘times going from bad to worse’ and how things were so good in ‘our times’. But, somehow I am finding the opposite. I mean apart from the girls of ‘Gen Next’ being more beautiful, I find that the SSG’s Young Ruffians are also actually much better than us Oldies. Really, we couldn’t have organized a better function than you guys of the ‘Core Team’.

Hats off to Pronob Bharali. Instead of being egocentric with his new rank (and I wish him at least one more) he has stepped forward to not only offer his good offices but actually devoted time to regularly interact with the other functionaries of the Core Group. I know how much you all – Indranil, Ratul, Sidharth, Ritu Ranjeet, Satyen, Jiban, Prasanta, Raju and Randeep have worked; and contributions of Jatin and Sanjeeb too. Thank you all so very much and keep it up. I must thank the plain ‘Attendees’ too for the excellent company. There is one guy I know who has just come home for a few days from Sudan and elected to share the evening with us instead of just with his wife. I am sure there are others who have taken similar pains to come and make the functions such a success.

Every Old Foggie must lecture and distribute un-solicited ‘gyan’ so I must not disappoint you by withholding that vital ‘gyan’ in this mail. The cause of my cheer (apart from the whiskey) is this you ‘Young Ruffians’, I find that you guys have shed the typical Asomiya malaise of wanting only others to take the initiative while one would like to enjoy the fruit. We have been like that probably with our ‘Zero Sum’ attitudes and you guys are adopting the ‘Win – Win’ ideas of the progressive societies. Keep it up; and, maybe I can contribute in organizing a Goalporiya Bihu sometime in January, if I do not get into some busy work.

Thank you very much once again.

subjectRe: Delhi NCR Reunion :: Nov 2009 :: Important Information! Please read...

Dear Sanjib da and others,

First, my sincere apologies for a delayed response to your most kind words. It's been a hectic week, given that it's the last month of the last quarter of the year for us, and I'm sure you'd appreciate the pressures we have during these times.

However, let me (on behalf of the core group) begin first by thanking and congratulating each one of members of this wonderful community for making the Delhi/NCR reunion event a roaring success! Needless saying, without your active participation and engagement, it could not have been such a success! Attached to this mail is a photo collage of the gathering, which I hope will bring back lovely memories of the evening. Other lot of photos will be available to you very soon through the Internet; I'll send an URL as soon as we upload them appropriately.

When we (a few of us who like to call ourselves the core group) first met in the month of October, we hadn't dreamed that we would pull off such a winner - with such a huge turnout of ex-SSGians in and around the city! Here we want to thank wholeheartedly the efforts of our most respected seniors like Pronob Bharali da, Ranjeet Barthakur da, Jatin da, Sanjeeb da, among others, for lending us their weight in generating such widespread interest in the event, as much among the very senior folks as among the most junior ones - without whose presence a reunion meet wouldn't have any meaning. Their active support and guidance in logistics, publicity, and in other material/non-material factors gave us the required impetus to leave no stone unturned to trace (literally hunt) down each and every ex-SSGian in this city and have them to be part of this August gathering (apologies to Wg Cdr Chandan Hazarika and Wg Cdr Avdesh Kumar for missing you out initially, but at least you hunted us down!).

We have now embarked on a mission... to live up to our sacred alma mater's lofty ideals instilled in each of us from the times we spent there - to contribute back to the very society we are products of. Irrespective of which field/vocation we individually pursue, it's a shared goal for all of us. Our sole intent in organizing this get-together has been to re-kindle the spirit of the SSGian and come up with ways and means of doing our bit. We sincerely hope that we have been able to launch the platform from which we are poised to fulfill our tryst with destiny - each in his/her unique way! And in this quest, we will keep on looking up to each on of you for unstinting support, inspiration, guidance, initiative, and participation!

To help each one of us know about others and be in touch, we had already distributed the contact directory at the venue. Just in case it is handy, I attach with this mail the soft copy a PDF version of the directory - once again with apologies to anyone we may have unintentionally missed including in it. Hope it proves to be an useful tool for all of you!

Sarv Mein Saddhyam!

Best Regards,
Core Group Members!
(Satyendra Kalita, Jibon Kakoti, Ratul Kalita, Siddhartha Sankar Nath, Prasanta Deka, Indranil, Raju Dhar, Rituparna Barua, Randeep Bora, Rajeev Hazm, Pranab Das, Sishir Basumatary)

PS: (1) we hope to see this group consist of each and every member of the ex-SSGian community soon...)
(2) Sanjib da, look forward to attending the Goalpariya Bihu in January!
